Clyda Minors win the County.2009 ended for Clyda Rovers GAA Club  in Super fashion last Friday Night in Mourneabbey when the Clyda Rovers Minor A Footballers emerged Victories easily against a committed St Vincent’s Team in the Final by 2-14 to 1-04. This is the Clubs 3rd County League Title in its History the Previous 2 titles being the Intermediate Football League in 1991 and Minor B Football League County in 1999.The Minor Team has given us great enjoyment throughout the year.  The expectations at the start of the year were quite low when The team played their first match of the year against Kilshannig in the League. Not much was expected from this young side. Since that victory their confidence grew and grew, winning the Double North Cork League and Championship and making the county championship final Where they were defeated by a Stronger and Older Bandon Team. Last Friday night marked a great achievement in gathering County League honors which was richly deserved By all the Players. The Team was coached by Timmy O Callaghan who has a remarkable record of coaching achievement in the Club. This Was his fourth time coaching a county winning team having previously coached the Intermediates in 1996 to county football honors as well as the Minor Team of 1999 To double county league and championship. He was supported by his selectors Cormac O Sullivan, Noel Walsh, Liam Madden and Con O SullivanWe salute the Panel of  2009 who were  Meaney Eoin,Madden Seamus,Madden David,Fitzgerald ken,O Sullivan Conor,O Sullivan Cian,Flanagan Conor,Kenny Chris,Nunan Douglas,O Callaghan Donal,O Connell Sean,Buckley Christopher,Mulcahy Daniel,Carey Raymond,Walsh Robert,O Callaghan Daniel,Carey Jerry,Clarke Maurice,O Connell Christopher,O Se Diarmuid,Linehan Michael,Sean Ronynane

Clyda Rovers GAA Update

Last Friday Night in Mourneabbey the Minor A Footballers had a terrific victory in the County Football Semi Final under lights when they Defeated Erins Own by 3-11 to 2-11 after Extra Time. It was a pulsating game which ebbed and flowed And match report can be seen in the Sports Section. It’s been a long year for the Minors who Started training back last January and they have given the club great enjoyment throughout the year. They Won the Club’s First Ever North Cork Minor A Championship in September when they beat Mitchlestown. A super Victory over Macroom and Last Weeks win over Erins Own see’s us in our First ever Minor A County Final. For such a young Team it’s a fantastic achievement  and what ever the result Sunday they have done us proud, We wish the Team led by Captain Chris Kenny and the Management Team with Coach Tim O’Callaghan the very best, The Fixture for the final has yet to be confirmed going to press. But is 90% certain The match will take place on Sunday Next against a very strong Bandon Side who hammered Valley Rovers in the Other Semi Final, Details will be announced once we know. Best of Luck to all.

October 20th 2009

Unfortunately last Sunday was a disappointing one for the Club as our Premier Intermediate Footballers failed to win The County Final when they were defeated by 7 points to 5 to Valley Rovers. It was not in want of trying as the team battled bravely but it was not to be our day. We still have had some great wins Throughout the year beating Mayfield, Nemo Bantry and St Vincent’s on our way. We would like to thank all the people who supported us and thank the Team and Mentors for their Effort for the year. We now must turn to Junior Hurling as we face the North Cork Final Versus Fermoy in Kildorrery next Sunday,We’ve no doubt the players will pick them selves up and have a right go in trying to win the North Cork. It takes place Next Sunday at 3.30. Your Support would be most welcome.

Clyda Rovers Play in County Football Final

Who would have taught after the First Round of the Championship in Blarney against Valley Rovers after having been Beaten convincingly that Clyda Rovers Premier Intermediate Footballers would be lining out in the County Final Next Sunday in Pairc Ui Chaoimh. After that devastating defeat the Players and Management Put their shoulder to the wheel before they faced Mayfield. After a Nervy Start Clyda Blitzed Mayfield and Secured their passage to the next round by a score of 2-14 to 1-06. All roads led to Blarney for the 4th Round where Nemo were fancied to beat Clyda who were big underdogs. In a super team performance Clyda totally blitzed Nemo and won by 1-12 to 0-5. A big gap then ensued until 2 Weeks ago when after a tough titanic battle Clyda emerged Victories over Bantry Blues by 8 points to 6 in the quarter final. Then Last Sunday in a wonderfully prepared Mallow Venue Clyda who had one stage trailed by 7 points stormed into the game against St Vincent’s and deservingly won by 2 points in frontOf our loyal band of supporters in a cracking contest. So Next Sunday in Pairc Ui Chaoimh the team has one more hurdle to face in Valley Rovers. The Valley 6 point winners over us already In the year will go in as favorites, but we’ve been underdogs all year so the tag should sit happily with us. We wish the Team , Mossie Barrett Coach and  the Selectors all the Best. They have trained hard and have made the parish and club Proud all year. We hope that our big band of supporters who were in Mallow last Sunday come out in force decked out in Black and Amber to shout on the Boys, as they try and bridge the 13 Year gap when we last won a County Intermediate Football title. Clyda abu.
