CLYDA WIN THE COUNTY LEAGUE
Clyda Rvs 2-13 St Vincents 1-04
Clyda Rvs made amends for their championship defeat at the final hurdle by Bandon when in Mourne Abbey on Friday
night last they accounted for St Vincents in the Ulster Bank Co Minor “A” Football League Final.
Playing with the aid of the wind in the opening half Clyda Rvs made most
of their advantage when with two points apiece from Conor O’Sullivan and Cian O’Sullivan they raced into the lead
by the 8th minute. Playing with confidence they maintained their momentum with Chris O’Connell, David Madden,
Conor O’Sullivan, Michael Linehan, Conor Flanagan and Cian O’Sullivan to the fore and with a goal and a point
from Flanagan followed by a point from Conor O’Sullivan they cemented their position. St Vincents were now under extreme
pressure and their cause was not helped when in the 22nd minute Michael Linehan broke through for their second
goal with Conor O’Sullivan adding a further point. St Vincent finally lifted the siege just before the interval when
Ryan Fielding slotted over their opening point to go in at the break trailing 0-01 to 2-07.
On the resumption St Vincents doubled their account with an early point from Stephen Maguire to give them some hope
but their opponents were not so accommodating and responded with a brace of points from Conor O’Sullivan to extend their
advantage by the 41st minute. After an exchange of points between Luke O’Connor and Cian O’Sullivan
Clyda Rvs again stepped up the pace and with points from Conor O’Sullivan, Michael Linehan and Sean O’Connell
they sealed their victory as the game was entering its final phase. To their credit St Vincents never gave up the chase and
with Ian O’Sullivan in goal, Kyle Lynch, Luke O’Connor, Shane Cunningham and Stephen Maguire battling to the last
they were rewarded with a late goal from Cunningham followed by a point from Lynch but unfortunately for them the game was
well outside their grasp at this stage leaving Clyda Rvs to run out comfortable winners on the final scoreline of 2-13 to
1-04.
After the game the cup was presented to the winning
captain, Chris Kenny, by Peter Hogan, Chairman of the Cork Co Minor Board to the great delight of the Clyda Rvs supporters.

Bandon too Good for Clyda Rovers in the
Minor A County Final
Bandon 3-12 Clyda Rovers 2-6: A FAR superior and better
equipped Bandon side proved too strong for Clyda Rovers in the Ulster Bank Co MAFC final at Cloughduv on Sunday last. The
winners dominated proceedings for most of the game playing an attractive brand of attacking football and were to strike for
goals at crucial stages that helped swing the tie in their favour.
Clyda Rovers with the aid of the breeze during
the opening half were to start in a very positive manner and from their first attack struck for a goal when a good delivery
by Conor Flanagan led to Sean O'Connell soloing through the heart of the Bandon defence to finish to the net from close range.
Further pressure by the North Cork side saw Cian O'Sullivan and Conor Flanagan add a point each by the 9th minute that helped
open up a 1-2 to 01 advantage.
At this stage Clyda Rovers were enjoying most of the possession with Christopher
Buckley, Conor O'Sullivan, Conor Flanagan, Kenneth Fitzgerald and Cian O'Sullivan all catching the eye. However as the half
progressed the evenly balanced and physically stronger Bandon side began to gain a foothold on proceedings. Michael Minihane
was very impressive at midfield while in attack their six forwards began to cause many problems to the Rovers defence. The
winners were to score the next three points in quick succession to leave just the minimim between the teams by the 13th minute
1-2 to 0-4. Clyda Rovers continued to battle away and were to force the Bandon defence to concede a number of frees that were
punished by Conor Flanagan in the 15th and 18th minutes 1-4 to 0-4.
However it was Bandon that were slowly gaining
the momentum. Both sides traded a point but it was all the Carbery side from here to the break and in the 28th minute Philip
Crowley struck the post with the rebound falling to Mark Sugrue who pointed from close range. Barry Collins followed with
a point before the winners took the lead for the first time in additional time when Jamie Crowley was brought down in the
square and a penalty awarded that Philip Crowley finished to the net and it helped his side hold a 17 to 1-5 lead at the short-whistle.
On the changeover Bandon were to dominate matters. Their defence were outstanding during this period with Eoin Sugrue
and Peter Murphy in particular very impressive denying the Clyda forwards time and space on the ball.
At midfield
Mike Minihane and Colin Swanton were to shade matters ensuring plenty supply to their pacy forwards where Fionn O'Leary, Mark
Sugrue, Philip Crowley and Jamie Collins excelled. Mark Sugrue and Michael Linehan swapped a quick point before Bandon missed
a goal scoring opportunity when the Rovers keeper Eoghan Meaney came off his line well to make a vital interception from Barry
Collins. However the winners made amends moments later when they struck for two goals in as many minutes from Fionn O'Leary
that effectively finished the game as a contest 3-8 to 1-6. The Rovers now faced an uphill battle. Conor Flanagan and Conor
O'Sullivan battled hard at midfield but overall they lacked support against a well marshalled Bandon backline. Eoghan Meaney
was forced to make another save from Philip Crowley while Jamie Crowley and Philip Crowley added a point each to extend the
winners lead to 3-10 to 1-6 with 11 minutes remaining.
The North Cork side refused to give in and in the 54th minute
were given a glimmer of hope when Conor O'Sullivan set up substitute Daniel O'Callaghan for a goal. However this was the closest
they would get with Chris O'Donoghue and Philip Crowley finishing with a flurry of points to run out comfortable winners in
the end. After the game Peter Hogan Vice Chairman of the Co Minor Board presented the cup to the winning captain Eoin Sugrue.
Clyda Beat Erins Own to Make County Minor Final
Clyda Rvs 3-11 Erins Own 2-11 (a.e.t.)
Clyda
Rvs qualified for the final of this year’s Ulster Bank Co Minor “A” Football Championship when in Mourne
Abbey on Friday night last they saw off the strong challenge of Erins Own after extra-time in what was a thrilling contest
Despite the recent inclement weather the surface in Mourne Abbey was in top class condition and after a tentative opening
period by both sides, in which a point from Niall Scanlon got Erins Own off the mark, Clyda Rvs began to come more into the
game. Points from Cian O’Sullivan, Sean O’Connell and sub Daniel O’Connell, who came in for the injured
Christopher Buckley, saw them ease into the lead by the 18th minute. The sides were on level terms five minutes
later thanks to quick-fire points from Scanlon (free) and Cathal O’Mahony but in the 25th minute the game
really sprung into life when Conor O’Sullivan broke through for a goal for Clyda to give them the advantage 1-03 to
0-03. Erins Own again hit back and after well executed points from Andrew Power, Andrew Gannon and Mark Collins the sides
were again deadlocked at half time approached but a pointed from Conor O’Sullivan saw Clyda Rvs go in at the break leading
by the bare minimum 1-04 to 0-06.
Erins Own, who were having strong displays from Kieran Moynihan, Niall Scanlon and
Cian O’Connor in defence, Andre Power and Mark Collins were having their moments in midfield while up front David Smiddy,
Andre Gannon and Cathal O’Mahony were looking lively, came out with all guns blazing and by the 35th minute
regained the lead when a powerful shot from Moynihan ended up in the net. Undeterred Clyda bounced back to equalise with a
brace of pointed frees from Conor Flanagan and after an exchange of points between Andrew Power and Michael Linehan they again
took the lead with a point from Conor O’Sullivan in the 50th minute 1-08 to 1-07. A point from Andrew Gannon
saw the sides level for the sixth time but then the home side who had impressive performances from Eoghan Meaney in goal,
Chris Kenny, Kenneth Fitzgerald, Conor O’Sullivan, Conor Flanagan, Michael Linehan and Cian O’Sullivan made a
bold bid for victory when after Flanagan converted a penalty the same played increased their advantage with a point from a
placed ball as the game entered its final minute. It now looked as if Clyda had weathered the storm but their opponents had
other ideas as they attacked in numbers and forced a penalty which was expertly taken by Niall Scanlon to leave the bare minimum
between the sides as the game went into injury time and in one final attack they brought the game to extra time when Scanlon
sent over a placed ball to leave the scoreline read 2-09 apiece.
In the first period of extra time Clyda Rvs forged
ahead with points from Conor O’Sullivan and Christopher Buckley, who had returned to the fray, and confirmed their authority
when following a brilliant move which started in their own defence Michael Linehan was on hand to finish the ball to the net
to give them a 3-11 to 2-09 advantage but a pointed free from Niall Scanlon gave Erins Own some hope as the sides turned around
for the second period. The big question now was could the “East Cork” side rescue the game and with David Smiddy
reducing the deficit with a neat point from play it was again game on. As a goal now only divided the sides it was all hands
on deck for the “Avondhu” champions and as their opponents fought tooth and nail for the equaliser but their defence
was equal to the challenge leaving them to run out winners on the final scoreline of 3-11 to 2-11 and a meeting with Bandon
in the final.

Clyda Overturned a 7 point deficit at Mallow yesterday to book their place

damage in the following minutes.Cork Senior Player Paudie Kissane gained a foothold at midfield in the 10th minute garnering
Clyda's First Point from play from Kevin Roche. But St Vincents replied with an goal shortly after. The City Side toke complete

Bantry Beaten as
Clyda Reach Inter Semi
CLYDA boss Mossie Barrett
admitted that the match was very disappointing as a spectacle, but he was obviously delighted with the result, and overall
he felt that his charges just about deserved to come away with a win. "From a purist's perspective, it wasn't pretty
to watch, but, I'll be straight and honest, we're not bothered about that, because championship football is all about winning.
"It was a very dour, physical match, and, in fairness, the lads stood up to it well. That was the most pleasing
aspect of the performance from our point of view, because it showed we are capable of grinding out a victory in a tight battle.
We played with far greater fluency in our two previous games, so we know we can do it both ways now, which is very encouraging
going forward," he said.
But Barrett is under no illusions about how difficult it's going to be to get over
St. Vincent's in the semi-final. "Vincent's were installed as favourites to win the county from the outset, and they
are obviously the team to beat, but if our mental attitude is right, I would be in no doubt that we can put it up to them.
The club is on a bit of a roll at the moment, with the junior hurlers in the North-Cork final, and the minor footballers in
a county semi final, so we will be hoping to keep the whole thing going next Sunday. We have now strung three wins together
since losing to Valley Rovers in the first round, and we are absolutely thrilled to be still playing championship football
in October."
Barrett was at a loss to pinpoint the reason for the lack of free-flowing football in Sunday's
game against Bantry, although he suggested it was partly because both sides hadn't played a championship match for several
weeks. "There was a lot of tension out there, but I thought the honesty from the two teams was second to none, and there
was nothing dirty about the game.
"We are delighted to come out on the right side of it, and I felt we deserved
to shade it overall. Our backs did very well to concede just six points, because Bantry had been clocking up big scores all
season. Paudie Kissane showed great leadership at midfield, kicking two vital points from long-range frees in the second half,
and James Murphy played a key role in attack..
"He has been our ace marksman all year, and, fair dues to him,
he delivered big-time again for us today. I thought the point he scored in the second
